Notes GHD: "...asymmetrical bridge supported by a single pier." Ile aux Barques is now known as Ile Jean-Jacques Rousseau. This location is better known for the large underspanned suspension bridge completed in 1834 by Dufour (documented in great detail in reference GHD). I have, thus far, omitted the underspanned bridge from the inventory. This entry is for the small footbridge that connected to the larger underspanned bridge. Notes GHD describes how Dufour designed the bridge but was replaced (for political reasons) by a novice engineer, Mr. Hug who produced his own design. The bridge collapsed under test loading.
