Penobscot River - Verona and Bucksport vicinity, Maine, USA

This large cable-stayed bridge was rapidly designed and constructed to replace the ailing Waldo-Hancock Suspension Bridge (seen in the background). It was completed in 2006. A public observatory is located near the top of one of the towers. Tim writes: "The first [image] is the whole span taken looking south down Penobscot River from Fort Knox, the second shows the Waldo side (west) tower that has an observation deck at the top, the third shows the Hancock side (east) tower, and the fourth is taken from the observation deck. The old bridge looked quite larger before it was dwarfed by the new bridge. Still, both are impressive in their own way."
